ANM AWARDS AND GRANTS

The Académie nationale de médecine is contributing to medical research by Awards and Grants annual attributions intended to reward or encourage works from researchers or researchers teams.

The Academy Awards and Grants are selected from Commissions composed of Academicians, chosen from their competence and their interest in the field of the work to evaluate, the Jury being authorized to call upon personalities from the outside of Academy.

Financing is obtained from income and capital gains resulting from gifts, legacies, real estate and personal properties left  to the Academy by generous donors who bequeathed a will, scrupulously respected, intended to support research works in all fields of medical, pharmaceutical or veterinary sciences.

The fact that the Academy is entitled to receive gifts and legacies exonerated from inheritance taxes and, also, the fact  that all operating expenses of the Academy are taken in charge by the Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale and the Ministère de la Santé gives the possibility to deliver  each year as Awards and Grants almost the totality of the income bequeathed to the Academy, unless the donors prefer a more immediate use of their gifts or legacies.

Awards and Grants bear the donor's name and the donor receives the title of “Benefactor of the Academy".

The donor himself decides of the modalities and finalities of his gifts or legacies, i.e. which researcher or researchers team will be recipient and in which field of research.

The amount of payments reaches 782.360 Euros in 2009. Representing an income and calculated to not erode the legacies capital in order to extend as much as possible their duration, this amount is subjected to annual variations which can only influence the total number of Grants.

Thus thanks to the generous donors, the Académie nationale de médecine is widely contributing each year to medical research.
