The academy as a government council

A mission to advise and inform :

“[…] Academy will be especially created  to answer to all government requests on topics relatives to public health, and mainly epidemics, diseases which are specific to certain countries, epizooties, miscellaneous cases of forensic medicine, propagation of smallpox vaccine, examination of new or secret, internal or external remedies, natural or artificial mineral waters, etc… The Academy will be in  charge of all studies or researches which can contribute to progress in the diverse  branches of the art to cure…” (From 1820 Founding order, 2d article)

The Academy as adviser of the government to advance the art of healing•

Adviser and consultant : an acknowledged  mission .

The Academy can be referred to give advice by request, but also oneself decide to give advices on all public or  individual health questions.

The legitimacy given to the Academy comes from its multidisciplinarity and independence toward any Agencies or other ad hoc organisms created by the government according to the current needs on the questions of public health.

The Academy multidisciplinarity is a guarantee for competence : with 130 full members and 200 national corresponding members, the Academy covers directly or indirectly all fields  in medicine, pharmacy and veterinary sciences.
